That clip, in need of redesign despite classic status!

Everyone will no doubt say that this is the mic for toms - and it is! But let me blow its horn so to speak about it's great pick up of saxophone sounds. A condenser will pick up more bottom end and a smoother rounder sound on a sax. But if its balls out, Stax style horn parping you want, the 421 produces a bite that is totally mid 60s without having to eq it massively.
It's also a brighter alternative to my first choice SM57 on a guitar amp. It's often great to position them both together on the same cone and use the phasing to eq the final sound to tape.

Will last forever, will always be great for drums and brass

Punchy and indestructible tom mic can also be used for kick. Better than you would expect on brass with a rich tone.
