10 Years of RecordProduction.com

New Year’s Eve 2009 marks the 10th Birthday for RecordProduction.com

It’s been a long haul, trying to find interesting producers, engineers, musicians and studios that are in to having a camera zoom in on them. Many of us are on this side of the glass because we don’t want or like to be in the spotlight. Many, particularly the English ones think it’s not cool to promote oneself. Welcome though to the new World of record production where you must network and promote yourself to be visible or found. Creating your own ‘brand’ or identity is more important than ever and we hope that we can help.

We’ve been doing this work free. It’s all part of the what goes around comes around principle. Everything is done in spare time and because of that sometimes lots is going on, sometimes less is going on.

A common question is why do we do it? To be honest we don’t know. It’s just evolved and ‘become’. The desire to promote young talent and also remind people of some older talent is what we like doing and help to pass on skills and techniques.

We have now passed the 200 producers featured landmark, that’s just 20 a year or less than two a month. Some have rightly pointed out that we must concentrate on quality rather than quantity but there are so many more people that we’d like to have featured. If you’re interested in being featured just get in touch. It can sometimes take a year to get round to filming and editing and getting you on (as it’s a part time thing) so the sooner you get in touch the better!

Special thanks to a number of people who have helped make the site what it is. Johnny Jaskot of Babblefish.com has done the most and has just been brilliant. On a trip to LA last year he flew down and arranged a crew to make sure that we could get to film as many features as possible, never getting anything back for himself. If we could award Grammy’s he’d have one!

Special thanks also go to George Shilling and Nigel Jopson for hosting some of the best producer interviews. Special mentions must also go to Claris Dodge for all of her help a few years back in getting the LA features happening, Phil Wagner for his introductions, Jack Hale for his Nashville introductions, Scott Mathews, Zenon Schoepe, Fran Ashcroft, Compressor, Ken Lewis, Ian Shepherd, Don Wershba, APRS, MPG, AES and so many more. A big thanks!

You can help. If you have time to record a few features in your area, record a tips video, contribute an article, give free tickets to LA (worth a try), donate a few dollars, donate any unused recording, video, lighting gear etc etc please help!

To fund the site, the servers, the gear, the insurance, the computers, the software, the tapes, the cameras, the lights, the lenses, the travel etc etc we earn money in two main ways: Advertising and photography. The ad’s on the site are the major contributor but recently many producers or studios have made contributions for their photo sets. We charge nothing to take the photos for the site, we only ask a contribution if you want them for yourself. More are being very supportive buying photo sets as prints or downloads and this has been a HUGE help.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed or has visited the site. Tell your friends, add bookmarks and keep the site moving on and useful to you!
