APRS Stems Are Us seminar at Air Studios

On July 18th 2001 the APRS held a "Stems are us" seminar at Air Studios, London, to discuss working with 5.1. The event was very well attended and Air Studio One was a superb setting for the debate which was quite lively!

To quote the APRS, "A new twist on the Surround debate provides an opportunity for informal listening to the very best of surround mixes in all formats followed by a panel discussing their experience of preparing for 5.1 including taking stereo stems at the end of a conventional mix session."

The Panel, called STEMS ARE US? included:

  • Hayden Bendal (DAT)
  • Pete Cobin (Abbey Road)
  • Simon Heywood (Sanctuary)
  • Steve Parr (Hear No Evil)
  • Andy Richards (Out Of Eden)
  • Tim Vine-Lott (Air)

The panel talked about their individual approaches to surround mixing. The panelists played their favourite surround mix in the studio through an M&K speaker system (supplied by Stirling Syco), explained some of the production choices they made and responded to questions from the audience of producers, engineers and industry executives.
