Recording and Mastering engineer Mike Thorne shows us how he bakes his tapes in this very short video on tape baking!  

Over time, tapes can shed their oxide layer that contains the recording.  It has been discovered that by gently 'baking' tapes the moisture that builds up in the tape can be reduce this problem, making the tape playable, and this technique has been employed by people wishing to extract the contents for archival purposes.

No tapes were destroyed in the making of this feature!
