Interview

Catherine Marks

Record producer and recording engineer

Catherine Marks talks with George Shilling

Record producer and recording engineer Catherine Marks talks with George Shilling about her unique take on music production.

Catherine is now based in the UK since moving over from Australia to work with Flood and Alan Moulder and already just some of Catherine's credits include; Foals, Kanye West, PJ Harvey, Placebo, Killers etc - and she won the UK's MPG Award for Breakthrough engineer in 2014.

We were keen to find out more about the 2014 nominated MPG 'Breakthrough Engineer' and 'Engineer of the Year' Catherine Marks so George Shilling packed his trusty clip board filled with questions and headed to London with camera crew and sound guy in hot pursuit.

Catherine Marks - record producer in the studio

Catherine is a producer / engineer from Australia and is now based in the UK. She found work pretty quickly on arrival as an assistant to Flood and Alan Moulder working on stacks of exciting productions. Actually, the story of how she got to work with Flood is more complicated but we really enjoyed the feature in Tape Op and there's no need to repeat their excellent interview - we were keen to get a sense of how she works and bring over her personality - which is really important when you're looking for someone to work with for many long hours in the studio.
