Part One of our special feature with top Metal producers Jaime Gomez and Russ Russell recorded at Parlour Sound Studios in Northamptonshire, UK. This is the first part that looks at the choices of guitar amps and microphones plus how they got started in the dark art of Metal producing.
We met up with two great producers well known for their metal production to discuss recording bands, mixing, techniques and more. Further videos will follow covering many topics so check back in over the next few months.
In this 35 minute video Russ Russell starts the conversation with Jaime Gomez talking about how he got started. Jaime tells us about the very modest set-up that he started with and how that's led to amassing a huge amount of guitar amps. Both agree that selling old equipment's never a good idea.
We move on to guitar recording techniques, not so much mic placement but more the approach in setting up. We move to microphone choices and then on to the subject of compression.
The next video will cover long studio hours and not getting in a rut. Later sections will look at the subject of what production is and what it involves, from band politics to musical and creative input.
Special thanks to Parlour Sound Studios for giving us access and to both Jaime and Russ for sparing their time!
