Interview

Steve Jordan

Record producer feature at Germano Studios

We met up with Steve Jordan, one of New York's most gifted record producers, while taking a break from mixing at the fantastic Germano Studios.

Steve Jordan's a Grammy Award winning producer (with Robert Cray) and as a drummer he has played with lots of top artists, from Alicia Keys to Eric Clapton. One particular favourite of ours here at RP is his drumming on the Nightfly (Walk between the raindrops).

Steve has worked with artists including Keith Richards, John Mayer, BB King, Don Henley, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow etc.

When talking about being a record producer Steve say's that the key thing to remember is that the public doesn't care about what the budget was, how good the gear is or any of the other excuses, it's of no importance to them. Always make sure that whatever you produce is great, no matter what the buget.

Some would say Steve Jordan is best known as a drummer as Steve's been a member of several bands plus backing many top musicians as a session player. He has gained a good deal of visibility recently as a member, songwriter and co-producer of Keith Richards and the X-pensive Winos. Steve has worked with the John Mayer Trio and Eric Clapton while continuing to work a busy schedule as a record producer.

Steve Jordan has recorded with many artists including:

Don Henley, Neil Young, Robert Cray, Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, BB King, Stevie Nicks, Bruce Springsteen, Buddy Guy, Kelly Clarkson, and many more.

Jordan joined Eric Clapton's touring band for 2006 and in 2009 he received another Grammy Award nomination - 'Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture' for his work on the soundtrack for the movie 'Cadillac Record's.
